The main attraction of the day starts from Ramna Batamul in Dhaka. On this day, rural people prepare special foods. They also arrange fairs at important places. Pahela Baishakh is a part and parcel of our Bangalee culture. It is the first day of Bangla calendar year. Our people observe this day with great festivities. The Baishakhi Mela which is celebrated on this day, is perhaps the largest festival of Bengali culture in our country. People from all walk of life rise early in the morning from their bed and put on traditional dress and join this festival in joyous mood.
Especially, urban people try to keep a while away from their blind mimicry of western culture and tend to be a Bangalee at least to this day. In village people pass the day by making meeting with one another, giving and receiving invitations, enjoying music etc. by local performers and doing many other festive deeds in our Pahela Baishakh.
