Flood In Bangladesh : Bangladesh is a country of natural disasters. Natural disasters like storm surges and floods occur almost every year in this country. Houses and roads were destroyed in the flood along with the crops. Cattle and people’s homes were all swept away by the flood. During the rainy season, when heavy rainfall occurs due to the influence of monsoon winds, the rivers of Bangladesh overflow. Water overflows the danger line and causes catastrophic flooding.

Flood is a natural calamity. It is an annual affair in Bangladesh. Bangladesh suffers from floods almost every year. Due to excessive rainfall or any other cause when rivers and canals overflow their banks and make a huge loss to crops and property, it is called flood.

Causes of flood

The causes of flood are many in Bangladesh. It is Firstly caused by heavy showers of rain. It may be caused by cyclones, tidal bores or melting of snow on mountains.

Effects of flood

Flood causes a big loss of our life, property and crops.It washes away villages , roads and even people’ s houses. Many human lives and animals are lost. All the communication systems  are suspended. People become homeless. They take shelter on the high roads , schools and colleges. The after effects of floods are more dangerous. After floods epidemic and famine break out. The areas affected by the flood become muddy and unhealthy. There is scarcity of pure drinking water in flood affected areas. The price of all daily necessities commodities goes up . Relief should be given properly to the flood affected people. They should be rehabilitated and easy loans and seeds should be given to them.

Last two floods in Bangladesh

The last two consequent floods in 2007 were very fearful. The flood caused a great  havoc in Bangladesh. It took a heavy toll of lives. Nearly forty eight districts were swept over by the floods. Many people became homeless, many cattle died and huge properties were collasped.

Advantages of Flood

Flood does some good to us . It makes our land fertile by depositing silt in flood affected areas. It washes away all the filth and dirt.

Steps to be taken

It is urgently necessary to take proper steps for the control of floods in our country. Both long and short term plans can be taken strongly. The silted up beds of our rivers should be excavated for carrying huge water. Proper embankments should be made along the banks of the rivers.

Flood hampers national income of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is an agro – based country. Most of the people of this country are related with agriculture.They grow crops in the field to cultivate the lands. But it is a matter of sorrow that the devastating flood washes away and damages all the golden crops easily. For this reason,  Bangladesh loses her nation income totally so it is a great epidemic for our country.
